Officers stated they were contacted by a individual who discovered a car in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Around fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a release.

Police report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they reported.

Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the surrounding area.

These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the substance was likely blood from a person.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.

City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have appealed to the community for tips.

A senior representative commented the incident made him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the extremist violent incident five years ago," he posted on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a shooter targeting people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
